The Horizon – The story behind the picture
Hi, my name is Thiagarajan, and I’m from Malaysia. I’m a macro photographer, but I still explore other genres of photography such as landscape, street, lightning, portrait and many more. It makes me even more adventurous as Olympus has always given me the edge to compete and deliver stunning images all the way till now. I started my photography journey in 2020 with the E-M1 Mark II camera. Since then, it has changed my way of life to look at things differently in other dimensions.
My work is solely posted on my Instagram account. My post-processing work is done through Lightroom and InShot only. I take pictures that conceal the emotions of mankind and present nature’s wildness around us.
And this is the beautiful story of my picture. Malaysia is divided into two kinds of weather only. The rainy season and the dry season. The dry season always gives us the edge to shoot beautiful portraits of the sunrise and sunset. Malaysia has few wonderful spots to witness the sunset, and Port Dickson is one of the underrated places. This possibly happens between the month of July till September, when skies are much clearer.
This picture was taken on 19 September 2024, around 7.00 pm to 7.20 pm. The day was almost raising the curtain for night. The time was 6.45, and as I walked outside my house, I saw the sky was so clear with a golden sky shine. It clicked in my thoughts that the chance to have a clear sunset horizon was high. Immediately, without further delay, I took my camera bag and rushed to the beach to shoot. The beach from my house is approximately only 1 km away. I managed to reach the place in time and realised how lucky I was as the sky was so clear without any clouds. In a flash, I took my camera off the bag and began to shoot it. The window of opportunity was at the right time. No tripod was used to shoot it. The scene was perfect, with people fishing on the left side of the beach, too. All of them took a slice of this beautiful scene to shoot it, too.

The shots were taken using my Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm F 2.8 PRO lens, with a shutter speed of 1/3200 and 1/1600 / Aperture f4.5 / ISO 400. Shots that were bonded into multiple layers using the InShot App.
This place has been a perfect spot to shoot sunset all the time, and it is visibly good, too.
I’ve previously shot a few pictures of sunsets in this particular area. You would be amazed by the sequel of the colours. Photography of the sun always endures the calmness within your soul as it promises whole new days of tomorrow.

A few shots were taken at the same location at a different time, featuring impressive colours.

These pictures were taken on 7th July 2024. It was a lucky day when the sun decided to raise the curtain between the ships:
Capturing sunsets never gets boring, as they offer us a wonderful panoramic view each day in different shades. I feel truly blessed to witness and capture them.
