Le Mie Strade / My Streets

My name is Giovanni, I was born and live in a small town in southern Italy.

I am very happy to share some of myself through my photos and the words that, below, briefly describe who I am and what I do.

I am a passionate amateur photographer, often travelling for work and whenever I can for fun.

My work takes place throughout the Calabria region, thanks to the collaboration with various companies that have entrusted me with the mandate to represent them in the area.

I love music, the kind played live, the kind made of acoustic sounds and I listen to everything but, when I wear headphones, I prefer the atmospheres that you can breathe in fusion jazz songs.

My work takes me everywhere and what I do sometimes, when I have time available, is to find a way to get out of the “normal streets” in search of places unknown to me with the desire to discover them and let myself be surprised.

I find myself on the streets of a village, walking along silent alleys almost on tiptoe so as not to disturb, where it is easy to find an elderly person on the street who invites you to chat, telling you about the life that took place in the streets and squares of his village.

I find myself on mountain roads, where behind every curve, the scenery changes and captivates you, or on coastal roads when, especially in winter, the warmth of the sun and the scent of the sea can give you peace.

Then the city streets, in the urban traffic where the expressions and gestures of people are framed by the facades of buildings, churches, squares and every type of urban detail.

The stories and emotions of these scenarios have become the object of my “photographic world”, and as the desire to travel these roads more and more often has grown, so has the desire to be able to capture in the best possible way, scenes that I would like to restore the beauty that my eyes train to grasp.

Listening to music can train the ear to identify the notes that form the chords, as well as all the sounds that follow one another in the song and I believe this is also true for images.

I feel that, over time, I have trained my eyes to the fascinating search for the detail to be seen.

Trying to recognize, and then wait, the moment that is about to happen, trying to position myself in the right angle to capture it! It is a continuous exercise that allows me to refine my taste, that helps me understand what I like and what I can do to try to achieve it with the camera!

Some time ago, on the advice of a person very dear to me, I purchased the Olympus E-M10, complete with the M.Zuiko 12-50mm lens. It seemed to us the most suitable to start with, and it was exactly like that.

Today “my Olympus” is the Mirrorless OM-D E-M10 Mark IV on which I mainly use the M.Zuiko 14-150mm lens. And it is this one that, strapped to my wrist, has accompanied me for just over a year and a half, on all my travels.

It was love at first sight with the “OM Camera System” and I have never stopped being surprised by appreciating its performance, simplicity and handling!

My “photographic world” is made of lights, shadows and details that I try to capture through the viewfinder of my fantastic MarkIV and, I am sure of it: I will never stop being excited by this splendid passion!

Le mie strade

Mi chiamo Giovanni, sono nato e vivo in una cittadina del sud dell’Italia.

Sono molto felice di raccontare qualcosa di me attraverso le mie foto e attraverso le parole che, qui di seguito brevemente, descrivono chi sono e cosa faccio.

Sono un appassionato fotografo amatoriale, spesso in viaggio per professione e, tutte le volte che posso, per svago.

Il mio lavoro si svolge su tutto il territorio della regione Calabria, grazie alla collaborazione con diverse aziende che hanno affidato a me il mandato di rappresentarle in zona.

Amo la musica, quella suonata dal vivo, quella fatta di suoni acustici e ascolto di tutto ma, quando indosso le cuffie, preferisco le atmosfere che si respirano nei brani fusion jazz.

La mia attività mi porta ovunque e ciò che faccio qualche volta, quando il tempo a disposizione me lo permette, è trovare il modo di uscire dalle “strade normali” alla ricerca di luoghi a me sconosciuti con la voglia di scoprirli e di lasciarmi sorprendere.

Mi ritrovo per le strade di un borgo, percorrendo vicoli silenziosi quasi in punta di piedi per non disturbare, dove è facile trovare in strada la persona anziana che t’invita a chiacchierare, raccontandoti della vita che si svolgeva tra le vie e le piazze del suo paesino.

Mi ritrovo per le strade di montagna, dove dietro ogni curva lo scenario cambia e ti rapisce oppure per le strade costiere quando, soprattutto in inverno, il tepore del sole e il profumo del mare, sanno darti pace.
Poi le strade di città, nel traffico urbano dove le espressioni e i gesti delle persone hanno come cornice le facciate dei palazzi, delle chiese, delle piazze e ogni tipo di dettaglio urbano.

I racconti e le emozioni di questi scenari sono diventati l’oggetto del mio “mondo fotografico” e, con il crescere della voglia di percorrere sempre più spesso queste strade, è cresciuto anche il desiderio di riuscire a catturare nel migliore dei modi, scene che mi piacerebbe restituissero la bellezza che i miei occhi si allenano a cogliere.

Ascoltando musica si può allenare l’orecchio ad individuare le note che formano gli accordi, così come tutti i suoni che si susseguono nel brano e credo sia così anche per le immagini.

Sento di aver allenato nel tempo i miei occhi all’affascinante ricerca del dettaglio da scorgere.

A cercare di riconoscere, per poi attendere, il momento che sta per accadere, provando a posizionarmi nell’angolazione più giusta per poterlo catturare!

E’ un esercizio continuo che permette di affinare il mio gusto, che mi aiuta a capire ciò che mi piace e ciò che posso fare per provare a realizzarlo con la fotocamera!

Qualche tempo fa, su consiglio di una persona a me molto cara, ho acquistato la Olympus E-M10, completa dell’obiettivo Zuiko 12-50mm., ci sembrò la più adatta per iniziare e fu proprio così.

Oggi la “mia Olympus” è la Mirrorless OMD E-M10 Mark IV sulla quale utilizzo prevalentemente l’obiettivo ZUIKO 14-150mm. ed è lei che, allacciata al polso, mi accompagna da poco più di un anno e mezzo, in tutti i miei viaggi.

E’ stato amore a prima vista con le “OM Camera System” e non ho più smesso di sorprendermi di apprezzarne prestazioni, semplicità e maneggevolezza!

Il mio “mondo fotografico” è fatto delle luci, delle ombre e dei dettagli che tento di catturare attraverso il mirino della mia fantastica MarkIV e, ne sono certo: non smetterò mai di emozionarmi attraverso questa splendida passione!
